How to Protect Children from the Heat Wave – Include Children’s Book Reading in Indoor Activities

The weather department is consistently issuing heat wave warnings. During changing weather patterns, the most vulnerable are young children. As schools reopen in April and a new session begins, it becomes essential for children to attend school. So, what can parents do to ensure that the heat wave does not affect their children?

In many districts, heat wave alerts have been issued. It is crucial to be extra cautious about the well-being of young children during this time. The intense heat can cause three primary issues: heat cramps, which cause muscle spasms; heat stress, resulting in weakness and stomach pain; and heat stroke, the most dangerous, where children or adults may even lose consciousness.

Prepare Your Children for School

Pack more fruits in your child’s lunchbox, such as cucumber, watermelon, muskmelon, papaya, and bananas. Prepare a drink with at least 2 liters of water, lemon, and sugar, or give them buttermilk to prevent dehydration. A daily intake of coconut water is also a great way to keep them hydrated. Make sure they take at least two baths a day to stay cool.

Encourage Drinking More Water

Children often forget to drink enough water while playing. Therefore, it’s essential to encourage them to drink water regularly. The human body is made up of about 70% water, so during the summer, it is even more critical to increase their water intake. Dehydration is particularly common in children, so it’s necessary to make sure they drink enough water.

Keep Your Children Busy with Books at Home

After coming back from school, it’s important to ensure that children stay indoors as much as possible. Playing outdoors in the harsh sun during the summer can be harmful. However, keeping children away from their phones and TV can be a challenge, especially when video games are the only indoor option. In such cases, books are the best way to keep them engaged. But the question arises: After school, which child would want to pick up a book instead of playing games? Understanding this, Tulika Singh, the author, has written special books for children that come with pictures and interesting stories. These books not only teach moral lessons but also add basic values that will help shape children’s character.

Ashwatha Tree Publications has published these engaging and educational books that are perfect for helping children develop a love for reading while staying cool indoors during the summer.
